Jamaica Bound... Happy Birthday Daddy!

Happy New Year!

(...five days late still counts right? lol)

First post into the year and I'm so excited! It literally seems like yesterday when I decided to begin ATBM and I don't regret it one bit! Blogging and writing are definitely things that bring joy to my heart and this year, my goal is to perfect my craft. I want to ensure that I am creating content that is timely, relevant, and above all, interesting to my readers.

So what's coming first?

JAMAICA!!!!!

Today, I will be embarking on a week long journey to Kingston, Jamaica with Emory University's School of Nursing to provide nursing services to the Missionaries of the Poor. My group and I will be performing general health assessments and patient education while on the ground. Because my intended speciality is Pediatrics, the focus of my trip will be with children that have special needs such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Jamaica is definitely a place that I have longed to visit for a while! What makes this trip sweeter is that it comes on what would've been my daddy's 60th Birthday.

When I think of my dad, I'm often reminded of the many car rides where laughter filled the car to capacity. He shared vivid stories of his adventures in Nigeria and Russia; they had the potential to carry you to the exact time and place. He introduced me to all things music and we both agreed that Bob Marley was quite possibly the best musician ever.

So today, I remember my daddy – Abiodun Aremu Akintunde. I love you forever! Thank you for teaching me to be fearless in my pursuit of love, passions, and adventures. I'm taking this trip to Jamaica for the two of us!
