A few days ago, I had the privilege of celebrating my birthday! It was a day filled with self-care, a delicious dinner, and quality time with my husband. Birthdays are truly special. So much so, that I never work on my birthday or half-birthday (yes, half - that's a thing) 😂. One of my favorite verses to meditate on each birthday is written in the book of Psalms:
"So teach us to number our days, That we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom." | Psalms 90:12
What does it look like to "number our days?"I've been thinking about that quite a bit.
Making the Most of Your Time
The older I get, the more dedicated I am to making the best use of my time. It's so hard lol. Between being a wife, a healthcare professional, and a college instructor, the hours and days seem to fly by. The (seemingly few) moments I have of downtime are often filled with things that help my mind go on auto-pilot lol - primarily Netflix and social-media scrolling. The reality is I have no excuse for not pursuing the things that truly bring me joy - journaling, blogging, and talking about all things hair. Neither do you. We often neglect many things not due to lack of time, but due to mismanagement of time and I am as guilty as they come. I promise, I'm working on it. This blog post in itself is a testament to that.
Living Each Day with Your Purpose in Mind
I was once told that each day should bring you a little closer to your purpose. Well... the question "what is your purpose?" must first be answered. Once answered, it unlocks a whole pandora's box of things for you to accomplish. It allows you to align yourself with people, places, and opportunities that will support you God-given vision for your life. There's truly nothing like it. This new year, both as in 2021 and additional birth year, I am determined to grow in my craft(s) and broaden my knowledge and skills. Take the class, make that connection, and invest in yourself. Growth and development in your purpose allows you to be impactful to those around you. Your purpose and gifts are never just for you alone.
The Pursuit of Wisdom
Want wisdom? Ask and you'll get it. It sounds so simple lol but, this is one of the most straightforward verses in the Bible. "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking" -James 1:5. Your dose of wisdom can come in so many forms - from the Lord Himself, from wisdom provided through counsel from mentors, pastors and/or parents, a Godly community of well-seasoned believers... the list goes on. The bottom line is if you desire it, you can get it. If there's one thing I've learned, it is that a life led in wisdom prevents so much headache and heartache.
Cheers to the next 365 days! If you're a fellow February baby, Happy Birthmonth! Whether your birthday has passed or it's later in the year, I challenge you to think on this verse and find ways to number your days in the best way possible.
